An EORI number is required for any import, export, or transit in EU countries. Economic Operator Registration and Identification is referred to as EORI. All EU member states are required by law to implement the Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) system. In all electronic transactions with Customs and other governmental entities engaged in global trade, all importers, exporters, and other transporters must use a specific EORI reference number. Anyone participating in export, transit, or import operations is therefore required to hold it. Since Denmark is an EU member, a common trade policy is used to import and export most of the goods. When importing and exporting goods into and out of the European Union, distinct laws and regulations known as the Integrated Tariff of the European Communities are in effect (TARIC code).
Danish customary practice
Danish tax laws and customs processes are administered and enforced by the Danish Customs and Tax Administration (SKAT). They are tasked with carrying out all orders made by the relevant ministries and governmental organizations in the country, collecting taxes and VAT, working to advance Denmark’s economy, controlling illegal commerce, and facilitating legitimate trade. It is issued in Denmark depending on enrollment for both import and export, and they are tied to CVR/SE numbers. Danish organizations must be registered for import and/or export even though they are not required to apply for an EORI identity. If registered, a CVR number will eventually change to an EORI identity with a DK prefix.
Danish national regulations for allocating an EORI number
The Danish Customs Authority Registration for Imports etc. oversees allocating the identity in Denmark. A Danish company identity number is necessary for a Danish EORI number (CVR in Danish). If registered enterprises register their CVR number/company for import, export, or both, an EORI code is immediately provided to them. The country code prefix DK is added to the company’s CVR number to create the EORI identification number, for instance, DK1223456677. If you are a non-Danish firm and not a citizen of Denmark, you must apply for company registration on the website Virk Indberet, which was made specifically for the registration of foreign companies. The ability to register for imports and exports comes with the assignment of identity. Additional requirements could include special service registration and mandatory information. Companies with existing Danish registrations that require an EORI number can register on the website Virk Indberet – update using their company login information.
Processing time
The registration takes a week to complete without a CVR number. The EORI registration process with a CVR number takes a few days.
Documents needed to complete the registration process
If you have a CVR registration, Denmark will not require any further paperwork for the EORI registration. When non-Danish nationals register a foreign corporation, there are unique conditions that can call for further information. Companies can message the Danish Customs administration (Toldstyrelsen) via their company login credentials on the administration’s website or go to the Customs administration’s page about registration if they need to make any modifications to the EORI number.
