The EORI number registration is governed by Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) No. 952/2013 of the 9th of October 2013, and the European Commission’s guidelines on the EORI system. The process for companies in all EU countries to obtain an EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification System) number is similar. In many EU nations, a business must use the code when filing a customs declaration. When speaking with the customs officials of other EU member states, it is used as identification. Finnish businesses can apply to Customs for it. In Finland, the format of the code is like the ISO, FI, followed by the business ID.

National procedure for assigning the code

The codes are issued by Finland’s Customs Authorization Center. EORI data are import, export, and transit economic operators registered in the Finnish customs customer register. Online at Finnish Customs, economic operators can register for EORI. Registration is available on the Finnish Customs website. Only the above will have their EORIs registered. Many Customs authorizations require it. An authorized institution gives a company the code to use with EU customs. EORI numbers are used to identify exporters, importers, and transit passengers across Union borders. Transport companies need EORIs. Customs enter company information into EORI but issue no permit. Finnish firms can request a Customs number online using form 730s (the form is in Finnish). Non-EU operators can request an EORI number using Form 730e. This app differs from the Finnish one.

Documents needed for registration

The electronic service for Finnish economic operators does not require any documents. However, applicants from third countries must provide a variety of identification numbers that may be verified using online databases. The TIR ID number, the VAT number, a number from the national business registration, and the D-U-N-S number are a few examples of these identification numbers.

Processing duration

Applications that have been cleared for processing are processed right away. When an application is complete and includes all required attachments, it can be authorized for processing since it contains all the information required to make a judgment. Applications for the number are typically processed in Finland within one business day. At most, it takes two working days.

Use of the code

For the following customs declarations, the code is required: export declaration; import declaration; presentation notification; upon arrival, unloading report on goods in temporary storage; transit declaration; entry summary declaration; arrival at exit notification; exit manifest presentation; and exit notification.

Verify a company’s EORI number’s legitimacy

In the Commission’s EORI number validation service, you can determine whether a company’s EORI number is still valid. Finnish companies’ EORI numbers have an alphanumeric format consisting of the prefix, FI, and a series of numbers which is the business ID.
